Accelerated Reader

Hello! You may have seen the weekly A.R. reports coming home. A.R. is the program we use to help students develop reading comprehension and fluency. Reading is the only homework I ask students to do regularly.

Students were tested at the start of the year in order to determine their reading level. The testing program also assigns students a reasonable point-goal based on their ability.

After reading their library books, students can take a test on their books to earn points. Students must check-out at least 2 books on their reading level at the media center, however they can check-out one pleasure book that does not have to be on their level.

A.R. tests can only be taken at school, and they are not generally taken for reading grades in class. They are allowed to look back in the book while taking the test.

You can view your child's progress from home using the link below!

Students who meet their goal will be included in a party each semester. The first goal is due Dec. 1st. In order to qualify, students must meet their point requirement and maintain an 80% or higher average.

Most students have time during homeroom, as well as during Center time (30 minutes each day) to go to the library and work on AR.

In my class, students are required to pass 2 AR tests each week. If not, they will have to work on it during recess on Friday in the Opportunity Room. We want all students to participate!
